This is one of my favorite projects! Back in 2022, we needed Key Art for the release of our upcoming game, Magic Kitten. We aimed to create a versatile composition that could adapt to various dimensions and resolutions. To achieve this, we separated key elements (such as characters, potions, and tables) into individual layers for easy re-editing later on. It also had to have enough space to be used as a banner, with an integrated logo.
Concept & Character Design:
The idea was to keep our protagonist, Catalina, as the main focus. Catalina is a witch who doesn't perform magic herself; instead, she brews and sells magic potions in her shop, using cats in her cauldron to craft them.
She is a bit silly but very studious (as you can tell by the candles on her hat, which allow her to read about magic stuff late into the night). She’s also a bit of a mess, which is reflected in her long, messy curly hair.
Composition & Golden Ratio:
With this personality in mind, I structured the entire composition around spirals. The "magic effect" follows the movement of the Golden Ratio, leading the eye directly to the focal point: one of the special potions she is holding.
